Sophie continues to be our little alarm clock due to her erratic sleeping. This morning she made sure I got up to do an Apple product launch. Smart little lady.
Needless to say, her early call; work out with the early intervention therapist, tubby this evening and lack of a long nap today has made for an early evening. Trent slept through the product launch but has followed pretty much the same pattern today and is now crashed.
He’s showed so much improvement with his speech. Everyday we see improvements. I got a call tonight that we did indeed get approval from Early Start to increase his speech therapy to once a week and I will now take him to a clinic on Tuesday mornings. Sophie’s physical therapy was also increased to once a week so we’ve arranged for her to get PT at the same time Trent is getting speech. I’ll have to run from room to room but I’m sure it will be fine and both babies will get more out of it. Trent has a habit of moving for Sophie and she has a habit of speaking for him so separating them seems the right thing to do. We will however continue with early intervention therapy once a week to work on their gross motor and play skills
The babies have me so figured out. Every Tuesday morning I work at home and for the last two Tuesday’s their activities have made sure I needed to change my clothes after being dressed for work. I’ve long passed the phrase of being covered in spit up, food and other things but somehow on Tuesday- they know I’m off to work. Last week Sophie had such a blow out that I had to put in her the tub and this week she completed doused me with a bottle. There went my blouse. They just laughed and launched.
They can also tell when I’m talking to someone they know. I called Jenifer (Tia) to tell her I had to go to a meeting and my folks would be here when she arrived and the moment the babies figured out who I was talking to – they both screamed TIA, TIA, TIA.
Aunt Jenifer is VERY popular.

Poor Sophie continues to struggle with her sleeping. We’ve tried the bed on the floor and sometimes it works while other time- not at all. Last night was one of those “swing” nights and at 3am- she was so unhappy. I think she was wet and cold (which I fixed) but it took a while to get her back to sleep. What would I do without Tivo? We’re still watching TV at 3am but at least now we’ve moved beyond the 80’s.
Trent on the other hand just sleeps and sleeps. Right now it’s a godsend but I’m quite sure when we start school, I’ll not be happy as I try and coax him out of bed.
They both love their music toys, magnet animals, books and puzzles so much. The animal puzzle though is beginning to worry me a bit. There is something wrong with the ion and I’ve notice every time I walk into the baby’s room, the elephant goes off. Talk about causing a complex? Why couldn’t it be a smaller animal that didn’t imply LARGE?
They continue to grow and amaze us each day. Everyday Trent wants a little more food (and he love EVERYTHING) while Sophie’s speech improves. This morning she was trying to push my gym bag out the door and kept saying “ Come on- Bye, Bye” made me wonder if she was planning some great party as soon as I got out the door.
Speech for Trent still isn’t there and nor are Sophie’s motor skills- but we’re working on them- everyday.

Both babies now seem to be feeling 100% and we are SO happy. Unfortunately we it’s raining but we [[Image:the_kids/filename]]are making the most of the straight through layout of our house. I was so impressed with Sophie this evening as she pushed Trent’s dump trunk though house. She was able to go from their room in the front of the house all the way to the back door, make sure she didn’t hit the backdoor (which is glass), turn around and use the high chairs as an obstacle course ducking her head and getting the large dump truck under it. Wow. Hard to believe she’s a lady who has struggled with balance issues. She and Trent did have a few moments of “mine” but they were able to negotiate sharing. It sort of turned into a miniature truck rally but both enjoyed it.
We’re working so hard on his speech. Everyday it gets’s a little better but it’s still hard to understand him. We do though try to praise him highly when he articulates clearly and to let him know how impressed we are with his speech. He is such a happy guy. His smile just melts our hearts. Tonight I heard him call Sophie by her name for the first time. WOW. In the past he’s always said “sissie” but tonight it was clearly “Sophie” A huge accomplishment. She on the other hand calls him “T” but I think it’s more about being cool than not being able to say his name since she can speak so clearly.
Her speech continues to improve and today she was able to tell me to “come on” when we were getting ready for our walk. Something she has heard Aaron do and was imitating. She was also able to tell me when she needed her pants changed. Typically Aaron and I refer to it as “packing” when they need a diaper change and she’s picked that up and were able to saying “packing to me. What funny little people they are. Today the babies went to a birthday party for a 1-year-old friend. I didn’t get the opportunity to ask Doris if they had a good time but our house is full of several balloons from the party and Trent is just OVER the moon with the balloons. He just loves balloons. Tonight when I got home he greeted me at the door with a balloon in each hand. Those kinds of things make you remember that sometime the simpler things in life can make people happy.
Sophie continues to really struggle with her sleeping. Last night was really hard. We just can’t make her comfortable. She’s still sleeping in her make up bed on the floor in our room but she just can’t get comfortable. She still goes from the floor bed to the swing and back again. It makes for a long night and it breaks our hearts that we can’t get her to be comfortable. Thank goodness we have a weekend for the 3 of us to catch up on our sleep. Hopefully the sleep “fairies” with be with us this weekend.
Today Trent has speech therapy. He’s trying so hard but his speech just isn’t there. It’s hard not to be worried. Thankfully we’re increasing his services. We’ll just keep working at it. He’s improved so much but still behind. He loves his books though. Every night he goes to his bookshelf and pulls out a book for me to read. He loves to be read to.
The babies are so different. Sophie is such a morning gal. This morning she told me I was “pretty”. Talk about making my day. Trent on the other hand could sleep for days. He just loves his crib. Mr. Possum. Every morning he squishes himself into the corner of his crib with his butt in the air and tries his best to play “possum” when I try to get him up. Unfortunately the crib just isn’t’ that big.
Thankfully both babies are now feeling better. Sophie’s antibiotics for her ear still have horrible impact on her bowels but we’re almost done and we can tell she feels better. Her balance is definitely improved. Woohoo!
We cannot wait for spring and warmer weather. We’ve had our fill of illnesses.
Sophie girl has had a couple of good nights sleeping on the floor in our room. The crib is still the goal but for now it feels far away. [[Image:the_kids/TKSKS.JPG]]
Our Sophie girl is better but still now herself. Yesterday I took her to the pediatrician and even though her belly continues to be VERY upset the only thing the doctor could find was an ear infection. She’s now on antibiotics. Aaron and I worry that our attempt to get her sleep in almost a “normal bed” might be responsible since she probably got a draft on while lying on the floor in our room. The scarier part is that her balance and walking is definitely declining. I had thought it was related to the ear infection but our pediatrician doesn’t think so. We’re not sure what to think. Her balance issues could be related from being dehydrated by her stomach issues but we always worry about her head. The good news is that her symptoms are not that of a shunt failure except for her balance issues.
Today the physical therapist came to see the babies but neither was up for a visit. Although he’s back to being the big ole’ garbage gut- – Trent had just woken up from a nap and was Mr. Cranky pants and Sophie just wasn’t feeling well. Needless to say we spent more time talking about the results from the Stanford development clinic and our plan to address the findings. Upon agreement from the early start folks, we’ll be increasing Sophie’s physical therapy to once a week and Trent’s speech therapy to once a week. This change may require taking the babies to the early intervention clinic since they don’t have enough therapists to do home visits. We’re looking at lots of different plans and it’s just a matter of finding the right solution to get the babies all the support they need.
